In September 2011, news aggregation site Digg revealed a new look,
designed to offer a more personalized and targeted online experience.
Despite the redesign, Digg has the same purpose -- to encourage its
users to submit interesting, entertaining and informative articles from
all over the Web, and to get its community talking about them. Digg can
be a valuable resource to help you increase traffic to your own website
or blog. You can introduce your content to a whole new audience by
taking full advantage of the Digg features and new format.
Step 1
Pay attention to
your profile. With your Digg account, you have the ability to fill out a
basic profile and add a photo that can be viewed by other Digg users.
Within your profile, be sure to mention your
company or brand and
include a brief, compelling description of who you are and what you do.
You can also direct traffic back to your website, blog, Facebook page
and other sites by adding links.
Step 2
Submit only your
best content. You can alienate the Digg community by submitting too many
links. According to Digg's best practices; it is advisable to submit no
more than 10 articles a day. Additionally, if you are adding everything
you have to Digg, you risk seeing some of your stories being voted
down. Add only your most interesting stories that you believe will start
conversation.
Step 3
Grab attention
with your details. When you submit a link to Digg, you have the ability
to add your own title and keywords. Ideally, you already have an
enticing title for your story, but if not, here is your chance to create
one. Keywords are also important. With Digg's new emphasis on
specialized, rather than general content you want to be sure you are
hitting the most popular newsroom topics.
Step 4
Participate
regularly in the Digg community. While you will understandably vote up
your own links, it is good practice to seek out other content you like
and vote it up as well. Take the time to submit links from other
sources, comment on other stories and interact with Digg users. Follow
the leaders in the Digg newsrooms as they are among the most influential
users on the site. The more you interact with them and other community
members, the more likely you are to encourage more of your own
followers.
Step 5
Cross-promote
Digg. Add the Digg button to your website or blog to encourage more
people to visit Digg and vote up your content. While it may seem simple,
just asking people to Digg your stories can also increase your
visibility. The more votes you are able to get, the more likely you are
to rise to the top of the leaderboard in the Digg newsrooms.
